Ahh the warm Spring breeze in the air and the first touch of the warm sun on your shoulders is a glorious feeling. Spring brings about a delicious bouquet of colorful flowers, lush greenery in every nook and cranny, the birds, the bees, and for me the unquenchable need to renew, refresh, and redecorate! A little Spring inspiration can do wonders to give a bright and airy makeover to your home. These ten easy steps will have the weight of winter packed away in no time, and the wonderful lightness of Spring at your blooming inside your home.
Step 1: Lighten Up Your Bedding
An oversized fluffy down comforter can be blissful to snuggle into during cold winter months, but come Springtime your bed needs to shed some weight. Replace heavy blankets and comforters with lightweight quilts and bedspreads that provide just the right amount of cover without heating you up during the night. While you’re at it, why not bring some of Spring’s beautiful color inside with this season’s collection of fresh florals and vibrant paisleys? If color isn’t exactly your thing, a crisp bright white quilt never goes out of style and fills your room with a light, clean feel. Belk has a beautiful assortment of intricately tufted white quilts that exude vintage romance.
Step 2: Add Bright Decorative Pillows & Throws
Whether you go for color in your rooms, or like to keep it neutral, a decorative throw pillow or blanket with the perfect pop of color can liven up any space. I love the latest trends in throw pillows. Decoratively stenciled quotes, charming creatures printed in a sophisticated manner, and pretty little tufts that look delightfully romantic. They’re the perfect accent to a monochrome couch or bed. And just because Spring weather can be so unpredictable I like to keep a lightweight throw handy in the living room just in case my nightly couch time is met with a chill in the air.
Step 3: New Placemats & Centerpieces
Outside of the kitchen the dining room table is often the heart of a home. A place where rich conversations and fellowship are a frequent occurrence. Help keep the mood cheerful with bright placemats and a fresh centerpiece for the season. You can never go wrong with a unique vase and a pretty floral arrangement, or you can opt for a nontraditional bowl of perfectly placed lemons and limes.
Step 4: New Dishes
Spring’s abundance of fresh produce in its beautiful rainbow of colors deserves to be presented dishes that can do it justice. This season offers dinnerware decorated in vibrant florals, adorable bird prints, and as always a collection of classic white with modern designs.
Step 5: Refresh Pillows & Mattress Pads
There’s no time like Spring to finally replace pillows that have gone flat and mattress pads that are on their last leg. Relieve stiff joints brought on by Winter’s cold weather with a cushy padded topper or try out a foam pad. Give your neck a break with an innovative contoured foam pillow, or surround yourself in an assortment of light as air down or down alternative fluffy pillows.
Step 6: Replace Heavy Window Treatments
Let the bright sunshine in by saying goodbye to heavy curtains and window treatments, and hello to breezy sheer curtains that allow natural light to fill your rooms.
Step 7: De-clutter and Organize
Jump into Spring cleaning head first by purging, de-cluttering, and getting your house organized. Use a few decorative baskets to spruce up your linen closet. Finally organize your pantry with coordinating canisters. Sort through ignored stacks of paperwork and mail, and organize into manageable piles placed in a tray or holder for easy access. Simplify your life, starting with cluttered corners.
Step 8: Paint
Being able to open your windows, also opens up a great opportunity to tackle painting projects to rejuvenate your home. A fresh coat of paint gives your space new life and helps clean up all the little dings and marks life has brought to your walls.
Step 9: Infuse Green with Plants and Flowers
Both your lawn and your home can benefit from the air enhancing effects of a few plants and flowers. Give your front walkway or flower beds a facelift with fresh seasonal flowers. Brighten up dull corners with a decorative planter and a bold green plant or small tree. Or even decorate your dining room table with a collection of succulents or vibrant green wheatgrass for a modern touch.
Step 10: Rearrange Furniture for an Update
It may not be in the budget to completely replace your furniture, but a little rearranging can completely change the look of a room, without thinning your wallet.
